Our goal as an association includes proposing initiatives that have a positive impact on the Latin American and Hispanic communities of Montreal. We do so by organizing charity events and spearheading fundraising efforts for social projects within our community. Check out our calendar to see any upcoming social events!

Amiguis Program
The Amiguis Program is SLASA’s peer mentorship initiative designed to support Spanish-speaking and Latin American students at McGill. First-year students and others seeking connections can register as mentees, while more experienced students act as mentors. Participants are encouraged to meet regularly, particularly through monthly Coffee and Spanish meetups. The program fosters academic, cultural, and social integration within the McGill community!
Churro Sale
SLASA held a popular on-campus churro sale at the McConnell Engineering building, offering freshly made churros filled with Nutella or dulce de leche. This initiative provided students with an affordable and delicious treat while also raising funds for our club activities.
Café and Bossa Nova
Café and Bossa Nova was a cultural appreciation event highlighting Brazilian music and language. Hosted at Bah! Café, a local Brazilian-owned coffee shop, the event featured an open Portuguese conversation group welcoming speakers of all levels. Attendees were invited to enjoy Brazilian snacks and drinks while engaging in a warm, community-oriented setting.
Mercadito SLASA
Mercadito SLASA was a cultural fair that brought together local Latin American and Spanish entrepreneurs for a vibrant marketplace in the University Center. Attendees explored handcrafted goods, authentic cuisine, and innovative startups, while engaging with the diversity of Latin American and Spanish traditions.

Carnival Party
Starting 2024, SLASA and the McGill Caribbean Students Society (CSS) hosted the hottest Carnival-themed party of the year. The night was filled with music by Montreal’s finest Latin American and the Caribbean DJs. The highlight of the event included the door prize of two flight tickets given by the Air Canada Foundation to support Kids Connection Haiti (KCH). By the end of the night, we had raised $3,721 CAD which were all donated to Kids Connection Haiti, a foundation that seeks to empower young men and women in Haiti by giving them access to education, life skills training, mentorships, and career development opportunities.
Latin American fair
Visitors to our SLASA x CLASHA (Caribbean and Latin American Studies & Hispanic Studies Student Association at McGill) Latin American fair got to eat their way around Latin America and discover Latin American and Spanish businesses! Some of the businesses that attended included L’Española, Alfajores Fleur, Cake Bakery Bro, and Caracol Studios.
